On May 25th, 2024, the serene atmosphere of the Pastoral Center in Maralal, Samburu County, was transformed by an event of significant importance – the Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Community Awareness Workshop. Organized by Al-Banaat, a reputable non-profit focused on empowering girls and young women, the workshop received extensive support from Il’laramatak Youth Concerns, making it a memorable and impactful event.
Objective and Purpose
The workshop aimed to shed light on the harrowing realities of FGM and GBV, encouraging the community to take a strong stance against these practices. By providing comprehensive education on the physical, emotional, and psychological impacts of FGM, the workshop sought to foster a shift in community attitudes and advocate for the rights and well-being of girls and young women.
